Merry Heart

I thank it, poor fool, it keeps on the windy side of care.

Every morning

“You get up every morning from your alarm clock’s warning, take the 8:15 into the city.”

Well. It’s about time I did a post about my new (two month old) job, huh? Right then. I have a job. I’m an administrative assistant at a church just ten minutes away from our apartment. You heard right. After months of driving an hour to AND an hour from work (on the three days I was in West Chester) I am only driving twenty minutes total a day for work. It is, in a word, glorious.

Everyone has been very kind and helpful, and I feel like I mostly have my bearings by now. There are still a few things that I need trained on, but I’m able to get through most tasks without trouble. Well, no trouble save the giant printer that WILL NOT print duplex documents without jamming up every second or third page (yes…we print a lot of duplex documents…printing always makes for a “fun” time); Dawn (the other admin assistant) and I stand right next to the machine during such printings so we can lay hands on it and pray it through. No lie.

Anywho. This won’t be my career or anything, but I think I’m going to enjoy the time I spend at this job. At the very least, there will be fewer angry patients for me to deal with (though I do miss my coworkers from the doctor’s office).

For those who would like to see what I do at work, here are pictures of some of the documents, signs and powerpoints that I’ve made:

A few weeks ago I started designing the sermon power points.
I also design various signs for bulletin boards, tables, etc.
I also design (or redesign) the announcement slides for the pre-service slideshow.
I’m also in charge of creating/editing the bulletion (aka “Worship Folder”) and prayer brochure (filled with requests from the most recent Sunday to four weeks prior).

For any who are wondering why I have semi-transparent, rounded rectangles over most backgrounds, that’s because I’m balancing the need to make things readable and my desire to use colorful/interesting backgrounds. I think it works, but that might just be my narcissism talking.

And there you have it. My job in a wee little nutshell.
