Merry Heart

I thank it, poor fool, it keeps on the windy side of care.

The details

Posted by Katherine Putnam on July 1st, 2011

“Oh, you mean my pilot’s license? That’s out back in the Cessna. Or perhaps you’re referring to my license to kill. Revoked. Trouble at the Kazakhstan border. I could give you the details but then I’d have to kill you, which I can’t do because my license to kill has been revoked.”

This post…will not be very interesting. It will consist primarily of random details and thoughtlets that I spew out in effort to prove that I do still blog. Sometimes. When the wind is right.

Detail: I’m greatly enjoying this whole having-standing-plans-with-people thing. We have a standing dinner every Thursday (or Thursday-ish, if there’s a conflict) with the Millers and Lisa…which is always awesome. We mix it up a bit (who hosts), but for the summer we’re primarily taking advantage of the Miller’s grill and trading off on who brings the protein, the veggies, and the drinks. Good friends, good foods, good times. (<--Incomplete sentence.) Detail: Clem can (and does) quote White Christmas. I wasn’t aware anyone outside my family did that. Our last Thursday night dinner was at a restaurant; Chris and I arrived first and decided to mix it up by sitting across from each other. Next thing I know Clem slides into the booth next to me and exclaims (as Kristen slides in next to Chris), “Isn’t this cozy? Boy, girl, boy, girl.” Win!

Thoughtlet: Is it weird that my favorite Elton John song is probably “Crocodile Rock?”

Thoughtlet: Beer chicken is awesome: tasty and the beer keeps it nice and moist. Also, the Stockers are awesome for having us over, feeding us good food, and getting us back into our apartment when we lock ourselves out.

Detail: There’s a chipmunk living under our sidewalk, right next to our door. Do we name him? Or, as Chris suggested, do we pour water into it’s dwelling? (I think not, on that last count. I have no thoughts, currently, on a name.)

Detail: For anyone wondering, work continues apace. It’s been quite quiet recently as pastors and staff take turns at vacation. My favorite aspect is still a combination of creating aesthetically pleasing powerpoints/signs/etc and not getting yelled at by irate and/or ignorant patients. On the downside, things are a bit more…boring…than at the doctor’s office. I feel like I’m accomplishing less. But, c’est la vie. This isn’t the dream job, by any stretch. I’ll get there eventually.

Thoughtlet: That last detail accidentally turned into a thoughtlet.

Detail: I love internet radio. It enables me to continue to listen to 102.9 WMGK even though I’m out of range on normal radio. The Beatles Break is still the highlight of my work day. “Tax Man” for the win!

Detail: Found a couple of neat, decorative vases when Lisa took me to an awesome flea market. They’re currently adorning the side table that used to be our tv stand. I say “used to be” because we finally finished our entertainment center, so our tv’s finally on that. And our dvd’s finally have a home that’s not a cardboard box.

Thoughtlet: Why has it been so long since I watched Psych? Chris and I are currently watching the second season on dvd…and I’m greatly enjoying rediscovering that show. I haven’t kept up with it since the second season, so I’m glad to be doing it now.

“I need to get something off my chest.”
“Is it your shirt? Please say no.”

Thoughtlet: When we have a yard, I’d like to have a garden. (Chris seconds that desire.) Now I just have to practice not killing the few plants I have in the apartment…

Detail: I enjoy caring for our apartment. It gives me immense pleasure to know I’ve cleaned it top to bottom. (Okay, I have yet to tackle the grime in the windows that has been there since WELL before we ever laid eyes on the place. But no worries, its time is almost up.)

I think that’s it for now folks.

Cheers,

Katherine Elyse
